Hotel Grand Windsor’s Response
Christopher Dickinson, General Manager at Hotel Grand Windsor, said the entire team was thrilled to be recognised by the most influential critics of all, their guests, across so many categories.
“Amongst the many awards we have received, these are certainly our most prized accolades because of the true nature of the judging, by our guests,” said Mr Dickinson. “We strive to create the most memorable stay for each of our guests and it’s wonderful to know that our accommodation as well as our restaurant has been recognised at such a global level.”
Background on the hotel itself
The original Windsor House 1920s art deco aesthetic formed the basis of the hotel’s extensive refurbishment in 2017. The building itself has lived a long and storied life, beginning in 1928 as Auckland’s first skyscraper at ten stories tall, the maximum legal height at the time. The current Hotel Grand Windsor is an MGallery by Sofitel property, and post-transformation, has been elevated from a three-star to five-star hotel.
Part of the hotel’s popularity can be attributed to its central location. Situated right in the heart of Auckland City, the Queen St Heritage Building is just a stone’s throw away from a number of amenities, including Britomart Station, the Viaduct Harbour ferry terminal, and the some of the city’s best restaurants, cafes and bars.
The Hotel Grand Windsor’s multi-award-winning accommodation and service strive to live up to the reputation of its heritage. The hotel aims to offer a luxury experience that echoes its unique and rich history, giving guests the opportunity to experience another time, with all the modern amenities we expect from contemporary accommodation. Guests are welcome to use unlimited Wi-Fi in all rooms and public areas, and all rooms and suites feature luxurious and spacious king size bedding.
Cooke’s Restaurant and Bar
One of the key cornerstones of the hotel is Cooke’s Restaurant & Bar. During the redesign process, it was crucial to pay homage to the original location, and Cooke’s has proven to be a perfect avenue for this idea.
The restaurant and bar also take architectural cues from the building’s art deco history and features carefully crafted dishes, designed by Group Executive Chef Jinu Abraham, with sharing in mind. The menu at Cooke’s also features several dishes inspired by well-known favourites from the original Cooke’s restaurant, presented with modern flair for a modern palate.
